Cybersecurity Threat Awareness

Collaboration is an essential component of the Information Security Program at NC State. The OIT S&C staff becomes aware of new and emerging threats from a variety of sources, including a few specific to higher education. 

NC State University participates with regional higher education institutions to exchange data, information about specific threats, and to collaborate regarding best practices. The university participates in international information sharing and analysis that connects information security specialists around the world.

Collaboration Resources

OIT S&C benefits from knowledge and information derived from an eclectic group of resources. S&C uses relevant information from the resources listed herein to provide education, alerts, and security guidance — not only to OIT staff but also to the entire university community.

Information Security Training

For information security training, OIT S&C consults the following resources:

  • Information Systems Security Association (ISSA)
  • Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA)
  • SysAdmin, Audit, Network and Security (SANS) Institute

Cybersecurity in Higher Education

OIT S&C periodically collaborates with other institutions regarding security policies and practices to review, inform, and improve information security management at NC State.  

OIT S&C consults the following resources:

  • Infragard & RED DART — A partnership with the FBI and a mechanism for sharing information and intelligence to help protect our environment
  • EDUCAUSE/Internet2 Higher Education Information Security Council (HEISC)
  • NC Higher Education Information Security (NC-HEIS)
  • UNC CAUSE Information Security Group
  • Research and Education Networking Information Sharing and Analysis Center (REN-ISAC)
  • Multi-state Information Sharing & Analysis Center (MS-ISAC)
