Report an Incident
Introduction
This page explains how anyone in the campus community can report a cybersecurity incident, which can involve one or more of the following types:
- Potential unauthorized disclosure or alteration of:
- University data that is not routinely made available to the general public; for example, employee evaluations
- Data that the university is legally or contractually bound to protect, such as social security numbers, credit card numbers, or certain research data
- Loss or theft of electronic storage devices or media containing any of the following:
- University data that is not routinely made available to the general public
- Data that the university is legally or contractually bound to protect
- Inappropriate content on a university web page, whether accessed directly or via pop-up:
- Advertising for a non-educational commercial product; for example, an online pharmacy
- Pornographic material
- Distribution of viruses or malicious software from a device or computer on the university network

Procedure
To report an incident, gather the following information and send it in an email to abuse@ncsu.edu or call the NC State Help Desk at (919) 515-4357:
- Type of incident (select from above list)
- Your name
- Your email address
- Your phone number
- Date and time of the incident
- IP address of each computer involved
- Logs from each computer involved
Reporting Criminal Activity
The following list provides instructions for how to report each type of criminal activity:
- Call the campus police department to report theft of any kind at (919) 515-3000.
- Contact the FBI, Secret Service, or another law enforcement organization to report suspected use of a university-owned device to commit a cybercrime.
